How long do braids normally last?

It depends on the style — generally the smaller the braid, the longer it lasts. Dutch / mermaid braids last 3 days to a week, and small cornrows 4–6 weeks. Sleep matters too: restless sleepers will find braids get messier faster. A silk pillowcase helps, or grab one of our braiding scarves for $7 to make them last longer.

Should I wash my hair before my appointment?

Braids go in better and last longer with a little natural oil in the hair (2–3 days since washing), but if you'd rather wash beforehand, that's totally fine.

Is there a minimum hair length for braids?

We recommend at least 10cm at the shortest bits. If your hair is shorter and you'd still love braids, get in touch for a quick consultation and we'll see what we can do.

How long does braiding take?

Dutch braids without extensions take about 15 minutes. Dutch / mermaid braids with extensions and colour take about 40 minutes. Small cornrows take about 10 minutes per cornrow.

Will braids damage my hair?

Done correctly by an experienced braider there's minimal damage. Most damage comes from leaving braids in too long — once a braid starts getting untidy, it's time to take it out.

Easy — you just unbraid them, and any added extensions come out with the braid.

A fun fashion accessory for your hair: colourful cotton threads wrapped or plaited together, usually finished with beads or a charm. Worn by all ages, and made straight into your hair or as a removable clip-in wrap.

They're made from high-quality 100% cotton so they won't fade or break. Wash and swim as normal — a well-looked-after wrap can last up to 12 months.
